RJIL should provide leads on cyber security threats to the government, says NSC

According to the National Security Council (NSC), Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) should play an active role in providing leads on cyber security threats to the government, since it is the only player to hold pan-India broadband wireless access licence.

NSC has noted that despite plans of launching 4G services over the next few months, RJIL is yet to become a part of the telecom industry bodies such as the Cellular Operators Association of India or the Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India. Both the industry bodies have extended their support for the creation of the Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (ISAC) - the agency which will collate all classified industry feedback on potential cyber threats and vulnerabilities in telecom networks across technology platforms.

A note prepared by the NSC Secretariat states that it is important for the government to involve RJIL in sharing information on potential cyber threats, trends and incidents to enable the government to take required security measures.
